  • Apologize for your actions.
    • We all know that when we do something wrong, it’s never too late to apologize. This is not a new concept and has been stated in the Bible. One popular quote about apologizing comes from Confucius: “If I have done you wrong, then please forgive me.”
    • We are all human and make mistakes. It’s important to be able to admit our errors and take responsibility for them so we can move forward with our lives.
  • Acknowledge that you hurt the other person and take responsibility.
    • I’m sorry that I hurt you.” It’s a phrase we all say at some point, but why do so many of us struggle to actually mean it?  “I’m sorry” can be extremely difficult when you’re struggling with your own insecurities and fears. We want to avoid the pain of guilt, regret, and shame by simply saying “sorry”.
    • But what does that really accomplish? Saying sorry without meaning it is just an empty apology. It doesn’t undo anything or help the other person feel better. We must apologize and mean it.
    • We must take responsibility for our actions. We need to make a change in our behaviour as that is the only way to truly validate our apology.

    • If you’re planning on apologizing to someone, don’t make excuses or blame others. This is a sign of insecurity and will not help the situation. If you are truly sorry for your actions, then take responsibility for them and show it through your words and actions.
